Change is the only constant

A body at rest remains at rest unless acted upon by an external force.

The first law of motion applies to people’s resistance to change as well.

Any change, big or small, is difficult to manage at first.

But, fact is that we are extremely adaptable creatures.

Thousands of years of change management has brought us to where we are in the present and that is no small feat.

All it takes is a slight change of mindset.

For instance, I thought it will be great to cut down my screen time (Yes, I saw the Social Dilemma).

I tried the following strategy:

Awareness: Do I truly know the positives that this change can bring to me?

Desire: Do I really want it or am I doing it because it is trending?

Knowledge: Do I know how to manage the surplus time?

Ability: Do I have the self-control to not be surrounded by a screen all the time?

Reinforcement: Do I make this change a habit or let it waver off like new years’ resolutions?

ADKAR — the sequential five goals that help achieve successful change — is a widely used change management tool for organizational change initiatives.

Only time will tell if I can sustain the change or be swept away by resistance (sigh).

What are your personal change management strategies? How do you manage change?
