That is Germany’s #covid19 mortality rate as of April 6, 2020.

Among the top 15 most impacted countries in the world, #Germany has a strikingly low mortality rate. Surrounded by #Italy, #Spain, #France and the #UK (countries with reported deaths > 5,000), Germany stands at ~ 1,800!

Even though it is quite early to speak about success factors, there are certain aspects of the German model that can provide useful insights for other countries.

Widespread testing

Germany has conducted ~900,000 tests;

Private labs have joined hands with the government, testing close to 1M people;

Testing frequency: # 350,000 per week

Proactive government response

A pandemic preparedness plan had already begun in early January — 4.5 M test kits were produced by end of February.

Community compliance

#Socialdistancing and #isolation guidelines, crucial to slowing the spread of the #pandemic, have met with little political opposition.

High hospital capacity

# critical care beds per 100,000 inhabitants: 29.2
