Five ways that Artificial Intelligence will help transform healthcare
- Outperform doctors at all tasks
No. AI will be capable to automate repetitive tasks, freeing up doctors for what’s more important — Patient Care, which involves deep patient-physician relationship that cannot be replaced by machines.
2. Classify the unclassifiable
No. AI works on patterns and those specialties that have certain quantifiable diagnostic patterns will be the fast adopters, such as radiology and pathology. Not all.
3. Predict the unpredictable
No. Clean labeled data are two important prerequisites to achieve acceptable prediction accuracies. Garbage in, garbage out.
4. Eliminate all jobs
No. Some operational tasks such as patient appointment scheduling could welcome narrow AI engagement and efficiency upgrades. Certainly not all.
5. Save time
Yes. The gift of time will undoubtedly be one of the most impactful contributions of AI; saving physicians’ time to improve their ability to empathize with patients and provide an opportunity to strengthen service delivery.
We are still in the earliest days of AI in medicine but the speed with which this technology is evolving, it is inevitable that AI will have a palpable impact on healthcare.
