Perfect is the enemy of good

A 20 minute run that I do is better than the four mile that I don’t.

A book that I finish slowly is better than the three that I don’t.

A pound that I lose for good is better than the five I gain back.

To try and fail is better than to wait for perfect and never launch at all.

To make mistakes and learn from them is better than not having tried at all.

To be happy with the work-in-progress is a good place to be in. We spend a majority of our times striving to reach somewhere, an imaginary place that would propel us to achieve the ultimate contentment.

I am quite sure that I am not the only one to believe that, after completing a certain task, our minds shift to conquering another.

If crossing off a completed goal is what brings a temporary adrenaline rush, why wait for it? Why not train our instinct in a way that it starts appreciating the small wins, the modest gains and the little successes.

Let’s try to revel in the mini-milestones, to enjoy the process, and congratulate ourselves to becoming better every day, one step at a time.

Happy first month of 2021 everyone!
